Fashion Week for Dummies.

So I'll be covering Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this season, for the FIRST TIME EVER. As you can imagine, I'm freaking out.

I think a big part of it is how fast everything has been happening...it's really been a whirlwind. In less than two months I've:

- Started my blog.
- Built up a network of fabulous peers.
- Applied for press accreditation through IMG, & WAS GRANTED IT [honestly didn't see that coming, applied as sort of "practice run" if you will].
- Sent out invite requests to like a hundred designers, got some invites back [again, surprise! Wasn't expecting ANY so late].

...and now, in less than one week, I'm headed to Fashion Week. I'm seeing about 15 shows, meeting my fellow bloggers at some sure to be amazing parties, and freaking out even MORE than before. What to wear? Where to go? How to get around?

Luckily, I've been fortunate enough to "meet" and network with some really awesome fellow style mavens who've gone out of their way to show me the ropes and offer advice. Without them, I'd be probably be popping xanax right now and rethinking my decision to venture inside the tents.

Here's what I've learned so far:

1. Breathe.

2. Don't worry so much about what you're going to wear. Stay true to your own personal style because it really doesn't matter WHO you're wearing if you look like a kid playing dress up, does it? No one is expecting you to show up in vintage Valentino.... you're press, not Rachel Zoe.

3. Make sure you take care of yourself. Stay hydrated, bring snacks, make sure you take time to rest and reflect, whether before, during, or after the shows. Everyone needs to recharge. Yes, even you wonder woman.

4. Try to be as organized as possible with your schedule, invites, etc. Makes life a little easier amidst the mayhem in the tents.

5. There's no such thing as organized in the tents. Mayhem is inevitable. Disregard #4 and roll with it.

6. BREATHE.

7. Be early, be respectful, be humble. More honey, more flies. Ya dig?

8. No invite doesn't necessarily mean no show. If you're really dying to see a collection, arrive early, wait on line, and ask if you can have standing room. They might say no. But they might say YES. What do you have to lose?

9. Do NOT, under any circumstance, snatch an open seat if you aren't entirely sure it's open. You aren't going to listen to me, but you'll remember this rule when you have a high profile guest whose seat you've stolen screaming at you in front of the entire show.

10. Bring flats. You may not wanna wear them, but you'll be glad you have them by mid-day 1. This is just common sense.

11. BREATHEEEEEEEEEEEE.

If I can just remember rules 1, 6, and 11 - I'm sure I'll make it out alive. =)

XOXO.

Thanks doll. :)

My advice is just work your ass OFF. I've only been doing it two months or so, but I have li8ke 108 posts, 300 twitter followers, I made a facebook page, and I just kept marketing myself, linking to myself, i tweet my posts, etc and so on. Most important thing it to get people reading.

Good luck!
