Vena Cava Spring 2010.

Who/What/Why: Vena Cava Spring 2010 Collection.

Location: Milk Studios.

Celebs spotted: Nina Garcia, Lauren Santo Domingo.

The Collection: Understated, neutral palette with little color. The collection was definitely 80's and punk inspired, from the shoulders to the acid wash to the safety pin detail, although the designers claimed that it was inspired by tribal elements (umm...?) Chiffon, silk, studs, fun prints, jersey, laser cuts. Models sported Persol shades and chunky black Tiffany & Co. bracelets, which I guess is the latest in tribal chic?

Hair: Ted Gibson [Modernized "ballerina bun", Gibson blow-dryed hair, slicked it back, and then twisted the hair up and roughed it up to create a frayed ponytail, before twisting it into a bun.]

Makeup:Lloyd Simpson/MAC [Matte lips in a vibrant purple shade which custom-designed for the show; soft, smokey eyes done in neutral beige shades with just a hint of black for extra smoke.]

The Takeaway: Ehhh...I wasn't wowed, but the collection was fun all the same. Pyramid stud detail on chiffon? Very cool. The star print silk was really pretty. I've heard the term "understated elegance" thrown around, now if someone can just explain to me what is understated about chainmail-esque safety pin vests?
