On a personal note...

Hi Guys,

If you've been following my twitter, then you probably know that on October 23rd my dear friend Ellen was in a near-fatal car accident while on her way to work. She has been in a coma ever since.

Let me tell you about my Ellen...

I first met El a few years ago on Halloween. She was a friend of my sister-in-law, Sylvia, and Syl invited her out with us that night. My first memory of her is this bubbly, loud stranger who was suddenly invading my bedroom, slipping into her "sexy angel" costume, gossiping, giggling, and getting ready with the rest of the girls. She fit in like she was always there. And I think that's what annoyed me at well she eased in. It couldn't be that easy, could it? I was wary.

My friends will tell you that I'm a difficult person to befriend (actually, what they'll tell you is that I'm a bitch, lol). We're pretty tight-knit, and being the oldest I'm sort-of "mother hen" and very wary of newcomers.

Ellen was no exception- I wasn't entirely sold on her in the beginning. But she very quickly won me over...which is difficult to do. And that's when I realized that I LOVED her, and would for the rest of my life. She was one of the special the way that even if you lost touch, you knew you'd see each other again someday and it would be like neither of you ever left. A true kindred spirit, a lifelong friend, a "sister". There are very few females in my life that I consider in that way, and Ellen IS my sister.

And while we did lose touch from time to time, El was always there for the big things, like birthdays, or for Halloween. She's one of the reasons that I look forward to Halloween, because I know that every year I'll get to hang out with "my El". And she's also the reason that I didn't celebrate this just didn't feel right.

Anyway, I digress.

Ellen was not expected to survive her injuries, and it's been a ROUGH road so far...but God gave us a MIRACLE and she is still fighting and doing progressively better every day. And I am SO THANKFUL beyond words for that. The doctors are amazed each day, and El has proved over again the past few weeks that she is not willing to give up. Our Ellen is a fighter, and we will not give up on her, no matter what the cost.

However, as Ellen faces daily obstacles with her condition, her family is facing obstacles with Ellen’s insurance, legal fees and possible future medical care.

El's family has set up Ellen's Prayer, a site where you can leave comments for the family, keep updated with El's progress, or donate (if you like) to help with Ellen's mounting medical bills. Please share your prayers and, if you feel so generous, a donation. (You can also donate below.)

More importantly, please share this link with all your family, friends and colleagues and pass along Ellen's story.

If you do choose to post the link, repost on your blog, or make a donation, please let me know. I'd love to feature you on FerOHHHsh as my PERSONAL thank you for your support.

*A very special thank you so far to all of those who have RT'd on Twitter or Facebook.*
